Here he received his Christian training and being encouraged by his friends, who already had immigrated to America, he in 1882 also, came to this country and made his home near Holstein. Here he received his Christian training and being encouraged by his friends, who already had immigrated to America, he in 1882 also, came to this country and made his home near Holstein. Nov 6, 1890 he was married to Sophie Huckfeldt by Rev. Dulden. To this union four children were born. August 1, 1915, his wife died. In 1918 he and family moved to Holstein. During all these years Mr. Sahling was not only a member of Zion Lutheran congregation, but an official capacity served this congregation nearly 40 years as secretary, and in our last annual meeting he was voted honorary member of the council. Three week ago he was paralized (sic) by a stroke which deprived him of his speech, only by nodding he would give his assent. He calmly fell asleep the morning of January 12th. His wife preceeded (sic) him on August 1st, 1915, one son William on March 6th, 1928. He leaves to mourn his children, Mr. and Mrs. John Sahling, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Siebhe and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lukow, seven grandchildren, one sister in Germany, and a host of friends amongst his neighbors and members of our congregation. He reached the age of 76 years, 2 months, and 11 days. Services were conducted in both languages by his pastor the Rev A. W. Wilke of the Wanda Lutheran church (sic) and the remains of Mr Sahling were laid to rest at the side of Mrs. Sahling in the Wanda cemetery (sic). The following acted as pallbearers: Frank Finningsmier, Henry Aufdenkamp, Fred Hohlfeld, Marx Schroeder, Henry Morchers (sic) and Henry Hansen, Flower bearers were Miss Minna Hagemann, Miss Eileen Fischer and Miss Magdolena Einspahr.
