INF Civil war Veteran ------------------------------- Mary His Wife July 25. 1848 - Feb. 29. 1918 OBITUARIES THE RENWICK TIMES Renwick, Iowa Thursday Morning June 28, 1934 Casper Norder Funeral Held Monday Afternoon Casper Norder, former Renwick resident, died last Friday, June 22, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Stauffacher, at Monroe, Wisconsin. He was 95 years old and a Civil War veteran. The remains were brought to Renwick where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Laurence Sohl at Evangelical church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was made at Vernon cemetery, the graveside services being in charge of the local American Legion. The following obituary appeared in the Monroe, Wis., paper;'Casper Norder, aged 95, one of the oldest residents of Green county, and a Civil War veteran, died at 12:50 Friday afternoon in the home of his daughter Mrs. John F. Stauffacher, 1724 Nineteenth street, with whom he lived since the death of his wife, Feb. 26, 1916. He fell from the porch steps at the Stauffacher home late Wednesday afternoon, suffering a fractured right hip. His condition had been critical since. Complications were fatal. Mr. Norder enjoyed remarkable health up to the time of his fall and was able to be up and about each day. He was born in Canton Glarus, Switzerland, Oct. 8, 1838, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Norder. He came to America with his parents at the age of eight years. On Jan. 15, 1863, he was married in Wisconsin to Mary Workman. They resided in Northfield, Minn., for a few years and later moved to Mitchell county, Iowa., where they lived until 1880 when they went to Brookings, S.D. They remained there for 23 years and then moved to Renwick, Ia., in 1908. Mrs. Norder died there and he since made his home with his daughter. Mr. Nordr was a member of Co.A, 46th Wisconsin volunteer infantry during the Civil War. He is believed to be the last Civil War veteran living in Monroe. Seven children were born, five of whom are living. They are Fred Norder and George Norder of Estelline, S.D., William Norder of Bridgewater, S.D., and Mrs. John F. Stauffacher of Monroe. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a brother Henry Norder of Renwick. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical church. Short funeral services will be held here with Rev. Alvin G. Rabehl, pastor of Immanuel Evangelical church, officiating, and later at Renwick. Iowa, where burial will be made. Humboldt Independent June 26, 1934 (Front page) FUNERAL AT RENWICK FOR CASPER NORDER Special to the Independent- Renwick, Ia,- Casper Norder, former long time resident of Renwick died Friday, June 22, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Clara Stauffacher at Monroe, Wisconsin. He was ninety-six years old last October. Mr. Norder enjoyed good health until the last few days of his life. Early last week he fell and broke his hip which injury caused his death. The body was brought to Renwick where funeral services were held in the Evangelical church with the Rev. Sohl officiating. Internment was in Vernon cemetery. Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion as the deceased was an old soldier. Mr. Norder's wife died in Renwick some twenty years ago and since that time he has lived with his daughter in Wisconsin. The dexeased is survived by one brother Henry Norder of Renwick, three sons and two daughters.
