RIESBERG DIED AT NEW VIENNA PASSED AWAY LAST THURSDAY EVENING AT SIX O'CLOCK FUNERAL HELD AT NEW VIENNA ON LAST Monday MORNING AT 9:30 O'CLOCK New Vienna, Iowa, May 16: Mr. Casper Riesberg, one of the pioneer residents of this place passed away at the family home 5 miles north of this city last Thursday evening, May 10th; at 6 o'clock, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 8 days. Deceased was born at Cosfeldt, Germany, on February 2, 1848 and when a young man came to this country settling at New Vienna. The family settled on a farm and he has lived in this vicinity ever since. About 52 years ago, he was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Sebers, in St. Boniface Church, the late Rev. Father Orth officiating. After their marriage they settled on a farm and followed the pursuits of farming until a few years ago, when he retired from active farm life. His wife preceded him to the grave on April 19th, 1919, and since that time he had been making his home with his children. Nine children were born to this union, seven of whom survive. One child died in infancy, and Bernadine, Mrs. August Sibble died at Templeton seven years ago. those surviving are Casper Jr., at home; Mary, Mrs. Fred Roling of Remsen; Wm. Of New Vienna; Anna, Mrs. Henry Brunsmann, of Dyersville; Josephine, Mrs. Louis Spoerer, of Templeton; Catherine, Mrs. John Mescher, New Vienna; Anton on the homestead. He is also survived by one brother William of Roselle, Iowa and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Kroeger of Templeton, and Mrs. Wm. Ruipiper of Roselle. The funeral took place last Monday morning from the family home to St. Boniface church were requiem mass was sung by Rev. Father Renert, after which his earthly remains were laid to rest in the family lot in St. Boniface cemetery beside those of his wife. The pallbearers were Messrs. Henry Bockenstedt, Gregor Roling, Fred Vorwald, Henry Klass, Clem Bildstein, and Leonard Fischer. There were present in the sanctuary during the mass Rev. Anthony Gerken, of this place and Rev. Father Kreimer, of Dubuque. The death of Mr. Riesberg removes from our midst one of the pioneer and most highly esteemed residents. Mr. Riesberg developed one of the best farms in this part of the country by hard labor and it is modernity equipped. Besides being progressive and enterprising along agricultural lines, Mr. Riesberg also found time to take part and an interest at the head of many enterprises. He held the offices of President of the Farmers State Saving Bank of New Vienna, for several years, and also holds offices in the New Vienna Central Creamery Co., and the New Vienna Mutual Fire Insurance Co. Deceased was honest in all his business with his fellowmen, and of a companionable disposition, made many friends who greatly regret his demise. Mr. Riesberg was devoted to his family, and was always solicitous for their welfare and comfort and his death has thrown the home in deepest sorrow. He was a devout member of the Catholic Church and passed away well prepared with its rites, to meet his Maker, and to receive the reward he so richly deserve. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to those left to morn his loss.
