Mrs. Blevins was a member of Maple Grove for more than fifty years. Mrs. Blevins was born in Wilkes County on November 3, 1922 to Ira and Maude Adams Handy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Blevins; one son Rev. Donnie Blevins; four sisters; Wilda Handy, Irene Pendry, Gladys Hays and Grace Sprinkle; two brothers; John and Quincy Handy; son-in-law Phil Gentry. She is survived by two daughters, Gail Gentry of Lincolnton, Diane and husband Rev. Eddie Shumate of Taylorsville; daughter-in-law Susan Blevins of Hays; one brother Numa Handy and wife Mary of Huntsville, Texas; two sisters Vicie and Nell Handy of North Wilkesboro and a special niece; Bobbi Jo Sprinkle of North Wilkesboro. Mrs. Blevins was a loving grandmother to Lisa Horne and husband Ron of North Wilkesboro; Richard Shumate and wife Amy of Hays; Bobby Gentry and wife Christie of Cherryville, Donnie Blevins, Jr. and wife Beth of Ronda; Stephanie Land and husband Mark of Taylorsville. She also has eight great-grandchildren; Amber, Carrie, Lindsey, Trey, Hollyn, Steven, Ian and Tristen; and two great-great grandchildren; Lydia and Cassie. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681. The Blevins family would like to thank the staff at Taylorsville House for their compassionate care and support during the last five years.
