At the age of 18 years he, with his mother, brothers and sisters, came to Iowa by wagon in 1862 and located at Canton where he lived until 1911, when he moved Onslow, where he made his home until his death, after a long- and painful illness, during which he was tenderly and patiently cared for by his daughter, Nettie, at home, early Saturday... Read More	The Wyoming Journal, 25 Sep 1930, Page 3. Cassius M. Ballou, the subject of this sketch, was born in New York State, December, 25th, 1846. When a small boy he came to the state of Ohio. At the age of 18 years he, with his mother, brothers and sisters, came to Iowa by wagon in 1862 and located at Canton where he lived until 1911, when he moved Onslow, where he made his home until his death, after a long- and painful illness, during which he was tenderly and patiently cared for by his daughter, Nettie, at home, early Saturday morning, September 13th, 1930, at the age of 83 years, eight months and 19 days. He was married on March 20, 1872 to Elizabeth Smith, who preceded him in death on May 22, 1919. To this union were born three children Lillie Johnson of Rock Island, Illinois; Nettie Alberry at home, and Jesse C. of Chicago. He leaves behind to mourn his loss besides the three children, a brother Scott Ballou of Madison, Nebraska; two grand children Lloyd C. Johnson of Kewanee, Illinois, and Stanley Johnson of Bock Island, Illinois; and two great grand children. When a young man Mr. Ballou learned the carpenter trade and many of the older houses of the community of Canton, and in Onslow, are of his work. He retained his tools and did repair work in Onslow until his health failed him. Funeral services were held at the home in Onslow Monday afternoon, September 15th. Burial in Canton cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. G. C. Flett, pastor of the Onslow Presbyterian church. Those from a distance attending the services were Scott Ballou, a brother, of Madison, Nebraska; Mrs. Harry Lamb and daughter Hazel of Norfolk, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ballou of Madison, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Boettclier of Columbus, Nebraska; Mrs. Edgar and Mrs. Wild of Rock Island Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Win Reyner, Mrs. Conley, Mrs. Brockhams and Mrs. Byerly of Monticello; Mrs. Merrick of Maquoketa: Mrs. Lapham of Baldwin; Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Bickford, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Barnes and Mrs. Smith of Monmouth; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. G. Dawes of Center Junction; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sinkey of Waubeek; Mrs. Will Brown of Riverside, California; Charley Hall and Mrs. Paul Pockels of Maquoketa.
