Description	:	In the early morning of November fifteenth, the soul of Mrs. J. B. Brouwer bade farewell to the frail body and took its flight to the Eternal Home. Almost four years ago, she was stricken with paralysis and was left almost perfectly helpless ever since. Brouwer bade farewell to the frail body and took its flight to the Eternal Home. Almost four years ago, she was stricken with paralysis and was left almost perfectly helpless ever since. To the day it is just three years ago that her husband was summoned by death, as was also her funeral service held just three years later to the day. She died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. L. Suckow in Klemme, where she was taken soon after the death of her husband and cared for for nearly three years. Mrs. Catharina Brouwer nee Bruns was born in Bohmerwold, Eastfresian, Germany. There she grew to maturity and was married to Mr. J. B. Brouwer on May 31, 1861. Ten children were born to them of which three preceded their parents in death. In 1868 they came to the United States and for five years lived in Hardin County, Iowa, after which they located in Hancock where they lived since, excepting eight years spent in Nebraska. After living on different farms in the vicinity of Garner, they moved into Garner about 23 years ago, where this venerable couple enjoyed life to the fullest extent and were most companionable to each other during these declining years. Few homes are more happy than theirs was. This applies also to their church life and the enjoying of their religious privileges. The deceased joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1878 and remained a member of the same until being translated to the Church Triumphant. Hers was a joyful spirit. She spread sunshine wherever she happened and thus made and retained many friends who highly respected her. The last years of her life were hard years for her daughter who cared for her. This is more especially true of the last year when she was entirely helpless. How she longed to take her flight to her Heavenly Home to be with her Master and meet her loved ones. She is survived by five sons and two daughters. Several of these were not able to attend the funeral because of vast distances. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Garner conducted by Rev. Gauger Van Metre. Interment was made in the Garner Cemetery.
