She was born in Sumter, a daughter of the late Furman Oxendine and Courtney Oxendine. She worked for the W.M.U. during the depression and later worked for the Campbell Soup Co. She will be forever fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a homemaker. She loved to tell stories and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a member of the Spring Bank Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Harold Benenhaley and his wife, Annette, of Sumter; one daughter, Kathy Benenhaley Powell and her husband, John, of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Spencer Rowe, Darin Powell, Shane Powell, Dwain Benenhaley, Troy Benenhaley, Matthew Benenhaley and Susie Williams. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez oxendine Benenhaley and Lagatha Ann Oxendine and a brother, Alfred Oxendine. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Spring Bank Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Bank Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Benenhaley, Matthew Benenhaley, Troy Benenhaley, Ralph Oxendine, Spencer Rowe and Alan Strater. Honorary pallbearers will be Burgess Oxendine. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the family residence. Memorials may be made to the Spring Bank Baptist Church, "Building Fund", 5725 Fish Road, Sumter, SC 29154. Online memorial messages may be sent to the family at www.bullockfuneralhome.com. The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
