Description	:	Catherine B. "Kate" Meinders, died on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at Sheffield. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 19, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Interment was in the Meservey Cemetery. Organist was Lyla Van Horn. "Kate" Koenen, was born on November 27, 1904 in Meservey, the daughter of Bernhard and Helen (Pals) Koenen. She attended the Wisner Township School through the eighth grade. She worked at the general store in Meservey and would help new mothers care for their children in their homes. On November 28, 1934, Catherine married Louis Meinders in George, Iowa. The ceremony was performed by her brother, Rev. Peter Koenen. They farmed the family farm south of Meservey until 1975, when they moved to town. Kate enjoyed crocheting and hand quilting with her sister, baking angel food cakes and cookies, playing cards, especially "500" with her friends and she liked music. She was a member of the Senior Citizens and the Meservey Kitchen Clatter Band. Kate was a member of the First Reformed Church of Meservey, where she taught Sunday School, was a charter member of the Ladies Society and a member of the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; great-grandson, Tyson; and brothers, Peter, Bernard and Johnnie. Survivors are her daughter, Janice (Tom) Waddingham of Thornton; grandchildren, Paige (Brad) Warren of Centerville, Kendra (Scott) Pottebaum of Runnells and Sarah Waddingham of Meriden, Connecticut; great-grandchildren, Kolby, Kade, Zachary and Katherine; sister, Gertie Frohling of Rowan; and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Koenen of Sheffield and Hattie Koenen of Belmond. ©Belmond Independent 2003
