CATHERINE TENNYSON DIED LAST NIGHT AT 11 O'CLOCK WAS CONSCIOUS SHORT TIME Before She Died The Patient Rallied And Told of the Details of the Runaway Accident Mrs. Catherine Tennyson, the widow who was the victim of a frightful runaway accident in the Uniontown vicinity a week ago today, receiving serious injuries passed away last night at 11 o'clock. The deceased was unconscious all of the time since the accident excepting a short time before she passed away. She recognized those about her and recalled the awful accident of a week ago. She told of the details. She was driving to her home, which is two miles west of Uniontown. While going down a hill one of the horses slipped the bridle and this caused a runaway. Mrs. Tennyson tried with all her might to check the frightened steeds but it was of no avail. Finally the vehicle was overturned and the sole occupant of the buggy was thrown out. Her head struck on a rock and this rendered her unconscious, besides making a bad gash on her head. She also had several cuts about the body. Mrs. Tennyson was also internally hurt, she having hemorrhages after the accident and it was this that made the accident fatal. The deceased was 57 years of age and one of the oldest residents of the county, she having come to Bourbon county in 1858, making her home here continuously ever since. The deceased died at the home of Mrs. Wilson where she was taken after the accident because of her precarious condition. The remains were this afternoon removed to the home and the funeral will occur tomorrow from the Unity Church, near Uniontown, a church that was erected by her late husband, Wesley Tennyson. The services will commence at 2:30 and owing to the prominence of the deceased will be largely attended. The remains will be laid to rest in the Hatch cemetery besides those of her late husband who preceded her to the grave some years ago. The deceased is survived by two sisters and a brother who reside in Texas and two step-children…Mrs. Elizabeth Holt and Willis Tennyson. The deceased was a woman who was loved and respected by everybody who was in touch with her life. Coming there at an early day she watched the country prosper and progress. She was a devout Christian and her life was devoted to the uplifting of humanity. Since the death of her husband she took his place in the world and has always prospered. The community regrets that her life was taken away so suddenly. OBITUARY Catherine Black was born in Mason County, Ills, May 5th, 1849, came to Kansas in 1858 or 59 and was married to John Wesley Tennyson in 1863 with whom she spent a congenial marital life until November 10th, 1902, the date of his death. She died September 2nd, 1906, aged fifty-seven years, three months and twenty-eight days. She leaves to mourn her departure one brother, two sisters, two stepchildren and ten step-grandchildren, besides a host of nephews, nieces and friends. The funeral services were held at Unity Church Sept. 4th, at three o'clock p. m. and was conducted by Rev. Woods assisted by Rev. Ramsey, of Redfield. Mrs. Tennyson was a woman of strong character, will and determination, a follower of Christianity regardless of creed or society, and as far as she was able, a true philanthropist, using her means for the benefit of mankind wherever she thought it would do the most good. The community will miss her influence, her family will miss her advice, and the cause of Christianity will miss her encouragement and her friends will miss her kindly greeting.
