Read More	Halifax Gazette Volume XXXIV No.4 South Boston, Virginia, Thursday, October 8, 1936 DIES IN NEW YORK ON SUNDAY LAST Burial Services Conducted From Old Barksdale Home in Halifax Tuesday Morning Mrs. Catherine Vaughan Thomas died at her home in New York City on Sunday of this week and her remains were brought to Halifax for interment in the family plot in St. John's Cemetery. The services were conducted from the old Barksdale home by Rev. Winfield Shiers of Trinity Episcopal Church, South Boston on Tuesday morning. Pallbearers were: Tucker C. Watkins, Jr., J.S. Lawson, A.R. Barksdale, H.M. McLaughlin, Francis L. Hunt, John Barksdale and Morelle Clarke. Catherine Vaughan Thomas was born in Richmond, Va., February 7, 1902, the daughter of Henry M. and Fannie Craddock Barksdale Vaughan and while she was quite young her family moved to this county. She was educated in the local schools and finished at a secretarial school. After the completion of her course she accepted a position in the law offices of Martin and Tuck and later relinquished it to go to New York to do secretarial work. On July 2, 1934, she was married to William J. Thomas, Jr., of New York, and has since made her home in that city. She was a member of the Episcopal church and up to her leaving the county was active in church work. In addition to her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. E.B. Craddock, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. C.E. Cox, Ashland, Va., H.M. Vaughan, Jr., S. Byrd Vaughan of Richmond and W. Barksdale Vaughan, of Cluster Springs. [Considering the date of publication, the date of death would have been Sunday, October 4, 1936. Catherine was also survived by her newborn son, William Calhoun Thomas b. 3 Oct 1936.]
