Description	:	Catherine Carder was born, February 21, 1817, in Randolph County, Virginia (now West Virginia), the daughter of Abbott Carder and his third wife, Edna Haines. On February 13, 1834, she married a blacksmith named Abraham Wamsley in Randolph County, Virginia (now West Virginia). She moved with Abraham first to Kikersville, Licking, Ohio before 1836, and later, to Bloomington Township, Muscatine, Iowa by 1841. Later that year Catherine married another blacksmith, Samuel C. Cole (Find A Grave Memorial # 506493), a Mexican-American War veteran, and a son of John and Hannah Chevalier Cole. It is very likely that Catherine gave birth to a son, Samuel Cole (Find A Grave Memorial # 132522105) in about 1850 or 1851. According to Greenwood Cemetery records, Samuel, who died in 1851, while still an infant, is buried in an unmarked grave in the plot owned by Mrs. Abraham Wamsley in Greenwood Cemetery. While the baby's presence in the Wamsley family plot is not conclusive proof of parentage, it appears likely that he was Samuel and Catherine Cole's son. Neither Catherine's marriage to Samuel C. Cole or the birth of Samuel are recorded in the Wamsley Family Bible and the Greenwood Cemetery records were not helpful in proving the question of infant Samuel's parentage. Araminta Eulalie Cole was born in 1853. Araminta's birth, marriage, children, and death are all recorded in the Wamsley Family Bible. By 1855, Catherine is living without Samuel on the Iowa State Census. All of her children are living with her or already on their own. In 1860, Samuel C. Cole appears on the United States Census in X, X, California. Samuel would serve in two California units in the Civil War (X Cavalry and X Infantry). After the war, he would return to Iowa and live for a time with a brother and his Mother in Johnson County. Samuel C. Cole died in Dayton, Ohio in a Veteran's home, his granddaughter Eulalie Mae Rummery (Mrs. Chester W. Smith Find A Grave Memorial # 123500083 - a daughter of Araminta and George Rummery) of Muscatine listed as his next of kin. Catherine filed for divorce in Muscatine County, Iowa in 1861, and on December 17, 1861, married a third time. Her new husband, a local Muscatine Island farmer, Elisha Beatty (Find A Grave Memorial # 96850809), was a widower with two sons, James and John, all of whom immigrated to America from County Down, Ireland. According to the published history of Muscatine, Iowa Elisha and Catherine lived happily together until her death. Catherine died on November 20, 1893 at home on Muscatine Island and is buried in the Wamsley family plot with Abraham, Eunice, Samuel, Araminta and two granddaughters Nellie (and Maimie.
