Description	:	Catherine Caroline (Heil) Dahl Toppenberg, 93, longtime resident of Ames, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada, IA, where she had resided for the past year. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames, IA, with family present to greet friends an hour before the service. Read More	Catherine Caroline (Heil) Dahl Toppenberg, 93, longtime resident of Ames, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada, IA, where she had resided for the past year. A private interment at the Ames Municipal Cemetery will follow the service. Caroline was born October 28, 1921 on a farm near Fernald, IA to William and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Heil. Caroline was the oldest of 13 children in the Heil family; she dropped out of school early to help care for her many brothers and sisters, and remained the Heil family matriarch all her life. Late in life her siblings honored her with a special Heil Family Lifetime Achievement Award. She married Marvin H. Dahl in November of 1940, and after Marvin's passing in 1963 she married Elmar W. Toppenberg in October of 1965. Caroline is survived by her children Judy Dahl (Gene) Harrison from AZ, Ron (Nancy) Toppenberg from Newton, Jerry (Regina) Dahl from Clinton, Jan Dahl Stivers from AZ, Stanly K. Toppenberg (Duane) Chaloupka from CO, Christine Dahl from Ames, Cindy Dahl (Art) Barton from Ames, Deb Dahl (Gary) Fry from Ames and Nick (Bobbie) Dahl from TN; 27 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren; her siblings Richard Heil from Marshalltown, Harold Heil from Zearing, Bill Heil from NV and Annabelle Stalzer from Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Stephen Anthony, adult son Randy Toppenberg, one son-in-law, husband Marvin, husband Elmar, and siblings Paul, Jerome, Harlan, Ron, Isabelle, Mary Anne, Sister Christella, and Sister Nicola. She was a lifelong member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, where she was involved in St. Rita Circle and Bible Study. She loved her family, was a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 733, took numerous trips with the RV Club, worked many years as an election poll worker, was a Girl Scout leader, enjoyed bridge club, and was very active in ARC for many years. Memorials may be made to St. Cecilia Church in Ames or Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, IA
