Pawling Taken By Death An audience that filled the Immanuel Lutheran church, east of Hooper, to over flowing was present Sunday afternoon to pay their last mark of respect to the memory of a highly esteemed neighbor, friend and resident, of that community, Mrs. Catherine C. Pawling . The pastor, Rev. E. Eckhardt, preached the sermon, one of comfort to the sorrowing relatives and friends, and one which also paid high tribute to one who had for many years been a faithful and helpful member of the church. Music was furnished by the church choir and pall bearers were six grandsons, Norman Hanson, Allard Scheer, Lloyd and E. Fred Pawling, Allen Hoegemeyer and Clyde Panning. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Wollmer & Warne, and interment was made in the family lot in the church cemetery. The death of Mrs. Pawling occurred about 10 o’clock last Wednesday evening August 22, at the farm home and resulted from a stroke of paralysis she suffered the previous Sunday while attending services at Immanuel church. She had attained the age of 73 years and 13 days. As Catherine C. Wolf, Mrs. Pawling was born August 9, 1861, at Watertown, Wisc. When a child of three years she came with her family to this community and located with them on Clark Creek, northeast of Hooper. This locality had ever since been her home, and her passing removes another of the well known pioneer residents of this vicinity. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith when an infant and in 1874 she was confirmed at the Logan Creek Lutheran church by Rev. Freese. She had held membership in the Immanuel Lutheran church for many years. On March 28, 1883, she was united in marriage to Thursby B. Pawling, who passed away November 2, 1914. Following the marriage the young couple settled on the farm northeast of Hooper that had since remained her home and which has been managed in recent years by her son, Will. In the many years Mrs. Pawling had resided in this community she had gained a wide acquaintanceship for herself and had held the highest respect and esteem of everyone who had known her. She was a true Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother and an ever helpful neighbor and friend and her passing is sincerely regretted by everyone who knew her. Two sons and six daughters remain to mourn the loss of this beloved mother they being Fred H. Pawling, Winslow; W. L. Pawling, Hooper; Ms. H. M. Hanson, Tilden; Mrs. W. J. Scheer, Meadow Grove, Mrs. Ernest Lang, Herman and Mrs. Herman Hoegermeyer, Mrs. Fred T. Panning and Mrs. Adolph Moeller of Hooper. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one brother Fred Wolf, of Winslow. (This obit provided through the generosity of H. H. Wagner)
