Catherine Carroll, daughter of Patrick and Bridget Carroll, was born in Phillipstown, Kings county, Kion Earl, Ireland, in 1841 and was sixty eight years old at the time of her death. She grew to young womanhood in her native land and then came to America. Jan. 13, 1871 she was married to Charles J. Dunn in New York City. They came to Boone county in 1879 and settled on a farm in Garden township near Kelley, where they resided for a number of years and then moved to a farm near Ogden and later to one in Peoples township near Woodward. In November, 1907, they retired from the farm and moved to Boone, taking up their residence at 1522 Seventh street. There she resided until her death. To Mr. and Mrs. Dunn were born eight children, two of whom have preceded her in death, Clarence died Feb. 14, 1893, and Charles M. died Feb. 24, 1900. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Chas. J. Dunn, three sons, John J. Dunn of Woodward and Peter B. and William R. Dunn of Boone, and three daughters, Mrs. William Stamp of Marrietta, Minnesota and Mrs. R.B. Cantlin and Mrs. Lee Buck of Boone, also one brother, Michael, one sister Ann a Carroll in Phillipstown, Ireland. The funeral services were held from the Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Father Saunders celebrated the requiem high mass and preached a touching sermon. The music was furnished by the church choir. The funeral was largely attended by sorrowing relatives and friends and many beautiful floral tributes attested the loving esteem of those who knew her. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. The pall bearers were: Frank Casey, J.R. Herron, Matt Welsh, T.J. O'Connell, John McDermott and Ed. Cavanaugh. Mrs. Dunn was a devout Catholic and lived a consistent Christian life. She was a woman of cheerful and loving disposition and ever endeared herself to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends, who extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved husband and children in their sorrow.
