Located her 1870 Census wherein her last name was HERLOCKER: Christin Herlocker 30, Elizabeth Herlocker 11, David Herlocker 9, Clinard (Catherine Clifford) Herlocker 4. She could not have been the daughter of Jacob Herlocker, as Jacob died in Nov 1862. The 1880 Census in Almonds, Stanly Co, NC: Written as Herlocke(Updated to Herlocker): C. Hurlocke 40, David Hurlocke 19, Cliffard(Catherine Clifford) Hurlocke 18, Lockey Hurlocke 8 James W. Hurlocke 6. Shows her mother as a widow. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 1920 Census-Albemarle, Stanly, North Carolina: Jno E Vanhoy 51 Clifford C Vanhoy 53 Tena Vanhoy 10 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Located a death cert for her brother David Monroe Herlocker showing mother's maiden name as Tinie Almond and father Jake Herlocker. Her brother James W was listed as James W Almond on his 1937 death certificate with no parents listed. Brother Lock Dean Herlocker couldn't have been a Herlocker either due to year of birth and Jacob Herlocker deceased in 1862. Catherine was listed as 18 and husband John Vanhoy was 16 at the time they married. That makes Catherine born in 1866 (born in May 1866 and married in Aug 1884). This makes her headstone correct but her d/c off by 1 year. Verifies her correct age and that she couldn't have been a daughter of Jacob Herlocker for sure. Catherine's son George's d/c shows her maiden name was Almond. Catherine's son Lock Vance's d/c shows her maiden name as Burleson. Catherine's son Burton's d/c shows maiden name of Almond. Catherine's daughter Beulah's d/c shows maiden name of Burleson. Now all the twists for Catherine's mother: Christina Almond Christina's son Lockey Dean 'Lock' always claimed the Herlocker surname, but since he was born in 1870 he's not a son of Jacob Herlocker. Christina's son James W (B 1873) listed on 1880 Census as a Herlocker. The 1920 and 1930 shows him listed as an Almond. His death cert shows he was James W Almond (no parents listed on his death cert). Parents listed on her marriage information and on her death cert were Billie Burleson and Tinnie Almond. Burleson was married to Rhoda Springer after the 1860 Census until Rhoda's death in 1902. DNA sure would help.
