She was born on July 17, 1909 in Edgewood to James Philip and Annette Hartman Cole. Catherine graduated from Edgewood High School. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls and received a teaching certificate. Her first position was at the Kremer School, which all of the Cole children attended. She was born on July 17, 1909 in Edgewood to James Philip and Annette Hartman Cole. Catherine graduated from Edgewood High School. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls and received a teaching certificate. Her first position was at the Kremer School, which all of the Cole children attended. She taught there for one year and four years at another Delaware County school before returning to Iowa State Teachers' College. She taught in the elementary grades at Oneida, Farragut, Corning and Fort Madison. For a short time she worked at the Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago, IL, with her sister Ruth and then was employed at a lithograph company in Chicago, working with color separators. She attended the University of Iowa, taking art courses. Her drawings and painting, particularly of floral arrangements, showed considerable skill and are prized by the members of her family. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Ruth Krug, Blanche Gloss, Cleo Pattison, Phillip Cole, Eleanor Hyde and Ralph Cole. She is survived by her brother, Bruce Cole, Morton Grove, IL.
