Catherine Davidson Shannon was born in New Castle, Ky., August 4, 1833, and removed with her parents at an early age to Aaron Rock, Mo. She was married to Campbell Gilmer in 1849 and removed with him to Montana in 1880. She was the mother of 11 children, one son having died in infancy. A daughter, Mrs. Robert Conway, died in Missouri, and another daughter, Mrs. George Ewing, died at the home of her father on the Madison valley; also a son, John Gilmer, died in Denver, Col. She is survived by four sons and three daughters: Elisha Gilmer of Warm Springs, Mont.; William C. Gilmer and Robert E. Gilmer living on the home place on the Madison valley; Ray Gilmer of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Robert Lyons of Dickenson, N. D.; Mrs. Frank Shriver of the Gallatin valley, Mont., and Mrs. M. A. Switzer of Jeffers, Mont. A faithful wife, a loving and devoted mother, a steadfast friend. Surely in the day of resurrection it may be said of her as of one of old, "she hath done what she could."
