At a very young age she moved with her parents to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and where she grew to womanhood and met and was married to James William Troth and came to Brule county 36 years ago [1884], he filing and living on a tract of land one mile east and four miles south of Kimball. This place was their home until January 5th., 1904, where her husband died but with herself and family she still retained the home and operated it until February 1st., 1911 when with her family she moved to Mitchell [49 miles east]. They lived in Mitchell until September 12th., 1914 when they moved to Sand Point Idaho, which was her home until death claimed her. Seven children live to mourn her loss: Alfred Troth, W. H. Troth, Mrs. Chas. Root, John Troth, Mrs. Jennie Timblin, Mrs. Elizabeth Woodard, all of Sand Point, Idaho, and George R. Troth, of Underwood, S. D. Mrs. lda Root passed away in 1911. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church, last Tuesday at 2 p. m. and the remains were laid to rest in the Kimball cemetery. A large delegation was out to pay their last respects to one they cherished and the esteem in which she was held in the community where the greater part of her life was spent. Newspaper clipping 2 Obituary of Mrs. Catherine Troth The following obituary was handed to us last week by George R. Troth. It came into our hands too late for publication but was none the less welcome as we had not been able to secure from reliable sources a complete history of Mrs. Troth's life as she had lived it as a pioneer of Brule county: Miss Catherine J. Houts was born in Pennsylvania on January 17,. 1852. When still a young girl she moved with her parents to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to James William Troth. About thirty-six years ago she and her husband moved to South Dakota, locating near this city. The latter years of their residence in this community were spent on the farm four miles south and one mile east of Kimball. It was here in January, 1904, that Mr. Troth died. Seven years later in February (1911) the family moved to Mitchell where they resided until September 1914. From Mitchell she moved with her children to Sand Point, Idaho, where she lived until her last illness and departed this life on March 2, 1920. The remains were brought to Kimball last week and laid at rest beside those of her husband. She is survived by four sons and three daughters: Alfred B. Troth, Salt Lake City; George R. Troth, Rapid City; William H. Troth, John W. Troth, Mrs. Mary Root, Mrs. Jennie Timblin and Mrs. Elizabeth Woodard, all of Sand Point, Idaho.
