She was born in Barnard, Maine on November 3, 1915 to Alden and Effie Ward Ladd. She was born in Barnard, Maine on November 3, 1915 to Alden and Effie Ward Ladd. She graduated from Brownville High School in 1933 and from the Bangor Maine School of Commerce (now Husson College) in 1934. In Barnard on July 2, 1938, she married Edward Harold McIntyre of Presque Isle. Before her marriage she worked in the office of E.H. Ladd, Brownville, and in the law office of Atty. Arthur Thayer, Bangor. Later, she worked in the Brownville Town Office and Post Office. She also worked at the Millinocket and Milo Community Hospital. In 1952, she moved with her family to Brunswick where she worked in the Bursar's Office at Bowdoin College, and Parkview Memorial Hospital. Due to her husband's ill health she spent several years during the 1970's at Green Hills Residential Care Center, Reading, PA and working for Quest Counseling Center. The couple moved to Florida until 1981 where she had worked for John Hancock Insurance Company, West Palm Beach. Returning to Maine she volunteered her time as a secretary at Maplecrest Nursing Home, Madison. Following her husband's death in 1991 [31 Jan 1991 according to Maine Death Records, 1960-1997] she lived for many years at The Tower, Woodlawn Complex, Brunswick. Primarily a hobby, Mrs. McIntyre is the author of several published articles, poems and essays as well as unpublished family histories and a novel of early Brownville Swedish and Welch settlers. She had been a frequent participant in the writing group at People Plus, Brunswick. She was a member of the Brunswick Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is survived by two sons, Douglas McIntyre of Katy, TX, Phillip McIntyre of South Carthage, ME; two daughters, Marilyn Cary of Topsham, Virginia Lake of Walla Walla, WA; cousins, Ruth Ladd Kierstead of Wiscasset, Hazel Bishop Allen of Milo; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. At the family's request, a private interment will be held in the family lot, Milo, ME.
