Freund Mason City - Catherine Marceille Freund, 88, of Mason City, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. Her body will be cremated following the mass, and an inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. A scriptural wake service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a rosary to follow at the funeral home. Family suggests memorial contributions to the Catherine Freund Memorial Fund. Catherine was born March 20, 1928, the daughter of Michael and Luella (Johnson) Curley in Rockwell. She married Peter Freund, Jr. on April 12, 1947, in Rockwell. After sharing 50 years of marriage together, he preceded her in death on July 1, 1997. Catherine grew up and attended school in Rockwell. She was a homemaker most of her life and also cleaned homes in Mason City with her sister, Mary. Catherine was a member of Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years, and volunteered with Foster Grandparents over four years. She was always proud of her Irish heritage, and enjoyed being around people and having fun. She liked playing cards, occasionally going to the casino, and was known for her homemade apple pies. She cherished her time spent with her family; especially her grandchildren. Catherine is survived by three daughters, Mary Kay Anderson of Mason City, Paulette (Roger) Gabel of Rockford, and Deborah (David) Gabel of Rockford; four grandchildren, Steven (Jamie Hepperly) Gabel of Mason City, Scott Gabel of Rockford, Michael (Heather Burkhardt) Gabel of Osage and Marty Anderson of Klemme; four great-grandchildren, Taylor (Richard) Keitzer, Zach Gabel, Noah Gabel and Liam Anderson; a sister, Mary Clausen of Mason City; and a sister-in-law, Beulah Curley of Rockwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Michelle Lee; a great-grandson, Nicholas Lee; and four siblings, Patricia Lambert, Martin Curley, Robert Curley and Joseph Curley. Catherine's family would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. Sam Congello for all of his kindness and compassion shown to her. They'd also like to thank the nursing staff on the sixth floor at Mercy Medical Center and Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit for the care provided to Catherine.
