Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements Catherine Folkers died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness. Catherine Margaret Harms was born June 23, 1910 in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Garriet and Hilke Johnson Harms. She received her education in the Lockhart, Minn. Schools, later returning to the Monticello area. On June 14, 1930, she married Henry E. Folkers at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed on the Folkers family farm until 1979 when they moved to Monticello. She moved to the care center in September of 1995. Mrs. Harms was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, the ELCW and the Quilting Group. She had been a volunteer at Camp Courageous and at the Senior Home. She also enjoyed her card clubs. Survivors include four daughters: Lois (Larry) Behrends, Margaret (Paul) Whear, both of Monticello; Helen McKinstry, Solon,; Alice (Ted) Henderson, Spencer, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren and two sisters, Laura Ambuehl and Elaine Buol, both of Monticello. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Henry on Dec. 25, 1984 and a son, Richard, in 1935, six brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be made to Wayne Zion Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
