Description	:	CATHERINE WAS BORN AT SCHOLENSEGEN, The farm home of her parents, HANS HENRY and CATHERINE SCHLOTFELDT near Klein Barkau in the Kiel area of Germany. She came with them when they migrated to their new farm at McCausland, Scott County, Iowa in January of 1852 with some of her younger siblings. On 11 March 1858 she married Jacob "Jack" Schlotfeldt in Scott County. His family was also from the Kiel area with some ancestral links. On 11 March 1858 she married Jacob "Jack" Schlotfeldt in Scott County. His family was also from the Kiel area with some ancestral links. Their children went on to be successful business people and prominant citizens in their communities. She and Jack divorced after their last child was born, he moved to the Moline, IL area and the family does not know, today, where he is buried. In July of 1881, she married JOCHIM SINDT of Walnut and, unfortunately, he died shortly after that. Catherine remained very active in the community and in the church and in 1899 she married JURGEN STENDER. She is buried in Walnut in an unmarked grave by Jochim Sindt. CATHERINE'S OBITUARY FROM THE WALNUT PAPER: Age 62 years, 2 months and 26 days. "She came to America at the age of 14 years and lived in Scott county until 1871 and has been a resident of Walnut and vicinity ever since." "The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the German Lutheran church, of which she had been a member for many years, conducted by Rev. Emil Hansen, assisted by Rev. Geo. W. Ladd, of the Methodist church, who preached a short sermon in English as many of the friends could not understand the German." "The church was crowded with friends and many were unable to gain entrance, for Mrs. Stender had made many friends during years she lived here. She was a good neighbor and mother and will be missed by a large circle of friends." "She was, by her first husband, the mother of eight children, five of whom are dead. Three sons remain, John Schlotfeldt, who is farming in Nebraska, and Henry and Rudolph Schlotfel(d)t of Walnut, all of whom are well known here. "Mrs. Stender's death was a very sudden one and a shock to the community. On Wednesday she was well, apparently, as ever and was working and planning for the future. In the morning her husband was awakened by her heavy breathing and called her son, who at once went for a doctor, but she never regained consciousness."
