She was lovingly cared for during her final struggle for life by her parents, and her brothers and their wives. Read More	MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Catherine Mary Howell Zellmer, 43, of Muscatine, was called too soon into the Kingdom of Heaven, on Monday, July 19, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family after a long and valiant battle against cancer. She was lovingly cared for during her final struggle for life by her parents, and her brothers and their wives. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010, at St. Mathias Church, 215 W Eighth Street. Casket bearers will be Matthew Howell, Andrew Howell, John Miller, Joe Miller, Zac King, and Tim Manderscheild. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the church with a Rosary Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Ss. Mary and Mathias or to the family in care of Steven. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Catherine was born on November 4, 1966, in Muscatine, the daughter of Jerry and Mary Lou Howard Howell. She was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1985. She married Steven Zellmer on September 22, 2000, at the St. Mathias Church in Muscatine. When not busy ‘mother-henning’ her brothers, growing up for Cathy centered on playing dress-up and having sleepovers with cousins, where she openly dreamed of nothing but having a family. Even her pastimes, learned at her mother’s and grandmother’s knees, included what many might consider hum-drum domestic chores such as gardening, cooking, and ironing. For Cathy, they were labors of love. She will always be remembered for her deep devotion and love for her long awaited children, Collin and Emma. No one visited her home without their latest photos in hand. Devoutly religious and dedicated to her immediate as well as extended family, she made it a point to attend family baptisms, first communions, confirmations and marriages. No event was complete without her. Admired by many for her endless faith and optimism in dealing with her cancer, she never gave up hope, attending a recent fundraiser as well as receiving healing blessings up to the end. And finally, she believed in the everlasting life where she will always be one with her Savior and a loving guardian angel to all she leaves behind. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Steven Zellmer of Muscatine; one son, Collin Zellmer of Muscatine, one daughter, Emma Zellmer of Muscatine; her parents, Jerry and Mary Lou Howell of Muscatine; her brothers, Randy Howell and wife, Cindy, of Muscatine, Mark and Kelly Howell of Muscatine, and Chris Howell and wife, Jen, of Muscatine; her maternal grandfather, Wesley Howard of Muscatine; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Barb Zellmer of Muscatine; a sister-in-law, Elaine Zellmer of Muscatine; and her grandmother-in-law, Harriet Jensen of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, her maternal grandmother, Edith Howard, and a grandfather-in-law.
