Description	:	Catherine, a former Boone & Des Moines resident, died at the Floyd Co. Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. She was the daughter of J. Elmer and Mae Catherine (Breheny) Smith. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Boone. On Nov. 22, 1930, she married Floyd Franklin Miller. The couple lived for a time in Boone and then moved to Des Moines in 1942. Mr. Miller died in 1952. Mrs. Miller was a longtime employee of the U.S. Post Office. She worked at a Des Moines branch and earned the nickname of "Air Mail Kate"... Mr. Miller died in 1952. Mrs. Miller was a longtime employee of the U.S. Post Office. She worked at a Des Moines branch and earned the nickname of "Air Mail Kate" because she was responsible for knowing all the air mail route and dispaches to the states and cities west of the Mississippi River. Retiring in 1975. She has lived in Charles City since March 1997. Surviving are four children and their spouses, Dolores Gay of Des Moine, Verna & Donald Wight of Charles City, Donna & Gene Gilchrist, and Arlie LeRoy "Butch" & Nell Miller, both of Des Moines; one brother, Elmer Smith of Belmond; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, and 12 brothers and sisters.
