Description	:	- An Old Citizen Dies Suddenly. - Catlett Lawson, an old and well known citizen, expired suddenly in the LANCE office, last Wednesday morning about 7:30 o'clock, of heart trouble. He was attacked in the store of M.B.Rowe & Co., where he was employed, assisted to the LANCE office and laid upon a lounge where he immediately died. Medical assistance was called in, but too late, as Mr. Lawson was dead when the physician came. He was attacked in the store of M.B.Rowe & Co., where he was employed, assisted to the LANCE office and laid upon a lounge where he immediately died. Medical assistance was called in, but too late, as Mr. Lawson was dead when the physician came. Catlett Lawson was born in Caroline county, but moved to Fredericksburg early in life, where he remained until his death. He followed the business of a butcher for many years. He leaves behind five children: Mrs. Taylor Jenkins, Mrs. Lee George, Misses Annie Bird, Mary Susan and George Lawson, the son, being a resident of Washington, the other residents of this place. The old English law making a butcher an incompetent juror in the trial of persons accused of a crime the penalty for which was death, because of a butcher's thirst for blood might well have been suspended in Catlett Lawson's case; for, though a butcher, his sense of right, honor and justice kept him, during the 76 years of his life, from doing an unmerciful or unjust action. He was a man of strong mind, firm in his convictions of right, and could not be swerved from the path of duty. Peace to his ashes. (Fredericksburg) The Free Lance - Jan. 13, 1893.
