The family consisted of his father, Theophil, two brothers and four sisters. They came from Zuidorpe, Holland, with other families to work in the beet fields. The Knight Sugar Company had sent some of their fieldman to Holland and Belgium to hire families who wanted to come to Raymond. For quite a few years there was an acute lack of labour to work in the beet fields. Ceasar went to school for a few years before his father placed him on a farm to work for his room and board and a small wage. The farmer gave him a horse later on and Ceasar spent a lot of time riding the grub line in the Lucky Strike, Skiff, Sweet Grass Hills, Milk River and Raymond areas. In 1935 Ceasar married Bertha Marie Stoffelen and they took up farming on the Ridge. In 1948 they moved to Coalhurst to live on a farm there. While helping a friend start a stalled truck with his team, the horses bolted and Ceasar was thrown under the wheels of the truck and injured his back. He spent two years in St. Michael's Hospital recuperating. When he got out of the hospital they moved back to the Ridge. In the fall of 1951 Ceasar sold his farm and moved to town where he worked for Scott Salmon. Later he joined Coppieters and Sons and helped build several of Raymond's homes before he worked for the Mercantile Lumber Yard. He built granaries, feeders and anything else farmers needed. He helped build Hi-Way 52 Feeders in 1967 as well as rebuild the grandstand when the roof was blown off. His remaining years before he retired at 75 were spent working for Hi-Way 52 Feeders. Ceasar and Bertha raised Ceasar Jr., Richard, Cecilia, Beverly, Ronald, Gordon and Donald before Bertha passed away 21 March 1976. Ceasar says he "has a wonderful family". In February 1977 Ceasar married Colleen Brown of Magrath. One of the highlights of his life was when was named Raymond's Honourary Cowboy in 1991. He will celebrate 88 years of life on 15 May 1993, and is in good health for his age. Although his knees are slowing him down some, he still likes to go to the Seniors for the pot-luck dinners every third Monday. He still manages to go to church and loves to visit his 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
