Description	:	He received his education in the school which stands across the road from his old home, and attended church and Sabbath school at Battin Chapel. In 1936 he began to work at the Independent dairy at Boone Iowa and worked there until the sickness began in October 1937 At first there seemed to be no cause for alarm. In December he was taken to Iowa City where he underwent a serious operation for a growth on the spinal cord. In 1936 he began to work at the Independent dairy at Boone Iowa and worked there until the sickness began in October 1937 At first there seemed to be no cause for alarm. In December he was taken to Iowa City where he underwent a serious operation for a growth on the spinal cord. March 1, 1938 he was taken to the home of his brother, Glen at Belmond, where his mother could care for him. In July 1938 he was brought to the Highfill Convalesence home in Boone, where he received the best care until he passed away Monday morning at 9:45. His mother had been constantly at his bedside since Feb 15th. He had kept a cheerful, happy outlook during the entire time, looking forward to the time he would walk again, despite the fact that all use and feeling had left him from the waist down since December 17, 1937. Many friends and relatives visited him during his illness and he never failed to greet everyone with a smile. On his birthday February 10 he took a very serious turn for the worse and all realized that the end was near. He chose his pallbearers, ministers and undertaker and asked that some of his flowers be taken to the Highfill home for the sick ones there. He waited patiently for his passing, telling those about him he was ready at any time to go. He was conscious to the last breath he drew. He leaves his mother, Mrs Laura Eccles of Belmond; three brothers and three sisters, namely; Donald and Glen of Belmond, and Gaylord, Of Boone; Mrs Frances Bentley of Medford, Oregon; Mrs Gracia Tilley, of Boone, and Blanche of Belmond; one half brother, Arthur of Des Moines and a half sister, Mrs Elsie Robertson, of Belmond. His father passed away in June 1937, and a half sister, Nellie, in January 1919.
