Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert L. Welsh, pastor of the Iowa City First Christian Church, officiating. The son of Herman I. and Madge Slaven King, he was born on Dec. 24, 1903, at What Cheer. He attended What Cheer schools. On Dec. 13, 1924, he was married to Emily I. Colbert at What Cheer. The couple lived in What Cheer and Oskaloosa before coming to Grinnell in 1935. While living in Grinnell, Mr. King owned and operated King's Laundry. He moved to Malcom in 1964 and operated King's Antique Shop. His first wife, Emily, died in 1978. Mr. King was married to Doris Thompson Colbert on Aug. 24, 1979, at her home in North Liberty, where the couple continued to live. Mr. King had been a member of the Knights of Pythias and Grinnell Loddge No. 358 of the I.O.O.F. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three sons, Donald of Grinnell, Jack of Livermore, Calif., and Larry of Charlottesville, Va.; one daughter, Kathleen Libasci of Waukegan, Ill.; his stepchildren, Everett Colbert of Bismarck, N.D., Betty Hellman of Waterloo and Max Colbert of Shawnee, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Snodgrass of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Gene and Wayne; his first wife, Emily; his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Roy Lee; and one granddaughter.
