Read More	***WORLD WAR II VETERAN*** Cecil James Thomas, born August 11, 1907, in Runnells, Iowa, passed away November 19, 2002, in West Des Moines. Cecil's family moved from Runnells to a farm north of Lamoni when he was a young boy. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church since 1916 and was an ordained teacher in the priesthood since August 1943. Cecil graduated in the class of 1926 from Lamoni High School and married June Green on February 29, 1932. They had four children, James, Norma Lee, Sharon Kay, and Robert. Prior to going into the Navy during WW II, Cecil had a grocery delivery business in Lamoni. After returning from the war, he opened Thomas Electric, an electrical appliance store in Lamoni. In 1956, he moved his family to Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where he was Buildings and Grounds Superintendent at Cornell College until his retirement in 1971. He and June were then resident managers at the RLDS Church campgrounds in Mechanicsville for a few years until they then moved back to Mount Vernon where he was a consultant for new construction at the college. In the mid-1980's Cecil developed Parkinson's and in 1992, he and June moved to the Crown Colony residence home in Lamoni. Cecil was a resident at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines at the time of his death. Cecil was an Honorary Alumnus of Cornell College. He was a long-time member of the American Legion in Lamoni and Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Cecil will always be remembered as a kind, loving man who never let Parkinson's keep him from going out with his family and friends or from playing a game of dominoes with anyone that would play with him. He enjoyed all family affairs, school reunions, and just rides into the countryside. Cecil will always be remembered for his sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye. He was preceded in death by his wife, June, his father, mother, and five brothers, and two infant grandchildren. Survivors include his children Jim of Charlevoix, Michigan, Norma and her husband Richard Small of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sharon Kay of Ankeny, Iowa, and Bob and his wife Virginia of Murrieta, California, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Wilbur Thomas, Grain Valley, Missouri, and many other relatives and friends.
