Born October 6, 1939 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Henry Cecil Wessinger, Sr. and Mable Yates Wessinger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and telling tall tales, stories and jokes to family, friends and acquaintances. Read More	LEXINGTON - Cecil Joseph Wessinger, 67, passed away January 7, 2007, in Palmetto Richland Heart Center surrounded by his family and friends as he held and rubbed his grandbaby's foot. Born October 6, 1939 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Henry Cecil Wessinger, Sr. and Mable Yates Wessinger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and telling tall tales, stories and jokes to family, friends and acquaintances. Mr. Wessinger was a lifelong resident of the Columbia- Chapin-Lexington area and a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. He was veteran of the United States Army, a member of the S.C. National Guard, and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Wessinger retired from the City of Columbia Fire Department following 27 years of public service. Since 1980, he was a shriner with the Jamil Shrine Center where he participated in parades and activities in the Choo Choos Unit. Mr. Wessinger was a member of Dutch Fork #402 Masonic Lodge, of the York Rite, of Local 793 Union with his fellow firefighters, and of the S.C. Firefighters Association. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Surviving are his wife, Anne S. Wessinger of Lexington; daughters, Cecilia Jo Anne Wessinger Hill and her husband, Tommy J. Hill, Jr., of Chapin, Regina Kelly Jo Wessinger of Columbia; brother, Henry Cecil Wessinger, Jr. and his wife, Janie Wessinger, of Swansea; one grandchild, Katelyn Anne Tillman Hill; numerous other family members, friends, and family pets. Funeral services for Mr. Wessinger will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10th, at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, Chapin, with burial and Masonic rites following at the graveside in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Ralph G. Hill. The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 9th at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Pallbearers will be Chris Wessinger, Robby Wessinger, Bobby Wessinger, Jim O'Cain, David Wiles, Chris Hitt, Chuck Wessinger and Mike Wessinger. Honorary pallbearers are Holly Wessinger and Stephanie Reed; his fellow retired firefighters from the City of Columbia and the members of Local 793; and the Shriners of the Jamil Choo Choos Unit.
