"Spike" Shorey, 76, died Jan. 10, 1998, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Burlington, Nov. 17, 1921, the son of Loring and Ellen (Jipson) Shorey. Spike was a veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed woodsman and worked for the D.O.T. and was a heavy equipment operator and a mechanic. He loved his family, enjoyed woodworking and making things, enjoyed his camp on Madagascal Pond, hunting, and his many friends. In addition to his wife, Elaine, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Doug and Mary D. Shorey, Pat and Rusty Burnham, Mary K. and Franny Willette, Rhonda and Mike Dyer, all of Lincoln, and Glen and Sue Shorey of West Bath; 11 grandchildren, Amy (Burnham) Oakes and her husband, Chris, Keely Burnham, Meghan Burnham, Jeremy Shorey and his wife, Shelby, Jessica Shorey, Danielle Willette and her fiance, Justin Goodale, Katie (Willette) Drinkwater and her husband, Shaun, Jared Willette, Dean Dyer, Hillary Dyer, and Kelsey Shorey; five stepgrandchildren, Mike Dyer, Stephanie (Dyer) Chvala, Sandy Willette, Jenny Bilodeau, and Jay Bilodeau; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Elaine Shorey, and Bridget Velda Drinkwater; three brothers, Charles of New Hampshire, Leon and Loring Jr., both of Lincoln; two sisters, Glenroy Smith of Bucksport, and Helen Shorey of Lee; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Otis, Edgar, and Clayton Shorey, and Esther Sibley. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Center Cemetery at a later date. The family will be gathering after the funeral at Spike and Elaine's home. All who wish are welcome. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his memory to either the Cancer Treatment Center at EMMC or the SNF unit at Penobscot Valley Hospital. Donations may be left at the Funeral home.
