At the age of twelve he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church and had been active in church work since. In 1914 he moved to the Denton community with his parents where he taught school for five years. On December 25, 1921, he was united in marriage to May Helen Gray of Stanford. To this union was (sic) born three sons, Cecil L. Hess, Jr., a second year student at Montana State College, Bozeman, Francis Dean, a senior of the Stanford high School, and Lloyd Gray, who is in the sixth grade. Cecil was a veteran of the first World Ward, was honorably discharged August 14, 1919, and had since been an active member of the American Legion. Cecil was also a member of the Denton Masonic Lodge and a Past master of that fraternity. He was active in many local and community activities. His death, although preceded by a number of years of gradually failing health, was a shock to his family and many friends. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, May Helen, three sons, Cecil, Franics, and Lloyd, his father, Harry B., of Denton, a sister, Minnie Reed, of Stanford, and a brother, Ivan H., of Denton.
