The couple had 10 children: Mrs. Clifford (Zelpha) Crews of Lynnville; Kenneth Smith of Searsboro; Dale Laverne "Jack" Smith who died in 1956; Max Smith of Grinnell; George Smith Jr. of Grinnell; Neil F. Smith, who died Oct. 12 of this year; Lyle Smith of Bellflower, Calif.; Gene Smith of Grinnell; Mrs. John (Peggy) Harter of Grinnell; and Mrs. Doyle (Norma) Burkett of Grinnell. She is survived by her eight children, 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George; her two sons; one grandchild, Charolette Kay Smith; and five brothers and three sisters, John Farmer, T. I. Farmer, Mandy Taylor, Ann Johnson, Lillie McFarlin, Addie Wolcott, and Pleasant Farmer, who died in infancy. Burial was in Lower Blue Point Cemetery south of Grinnell.
