Description	:	Cephas Thompson was a portrait painter. He was self-taught. Many of his works are in display at the Boston Athenaeum, including the likenesses of eight of his family. He has painted Chief Justice John Marshall, Commodore Stephen Decatur Jr, South Carolina Congressman David Ramsey, Actor John Howard Payne, and Writer George Washington Parke Curtis. He also painted the portraits of many Middleborough residents. Cephas married Olive Leonard on March 18, 1802. She widowed him.
