Second, Apt. 108, Ottumwa, died at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 26, 1997, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Hector, Minn., to George and Anna Gough Johnson. He married Sally Palmer on Oct. 22, 1965, in Ottumwa. They later divorced. He was a former boxer and coach of the Ottumwa Boxing Club, former coach of the Ottumwa National Little League and Ottumwa Babe Ruth League. He is survived by a companion, Paula Giberson; three sons, Tony Johnson of Chariton, Kirk Runnells of Texas and Steve Giberson of Ottumwa ; two daughters, Angie Sampson and Rhonda Giberson of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; and a brother, David Johnson of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Darwin West and a sister, Nancy Comer. The service will be I p.m. today at Alexander-Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Eugene Smith of Trinity Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Giberson, Bob Baird, Bill Robinson. Len Mathias, Jim Morrison and Scott Northup. Memorials may be made to the family.
