Charles A Halsey DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Charles A Halsey passed away at his home southwest of Tilden on Saturday, June 5th (1920) after a prolonged illness extending over several months. It is thought that the disease which resulted in his death was caused by influenza. He was confined to his bed from December until death came to release him from all earthly ills. He was always cheerful and patient during his long sickness, his concern for wife and children seeming uppermost in his mind. He was born in North Carolina April 5th, 1873 being 47 years and 2 months old at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Cornelia Fender, November 11, 1899. To this union eight children were born, two dying in infancy, and six surviving; Mecca, Dwight, Ruth, Eugene, Carrie and Eula. Besides the children, Mr. Halsey leaves his loving wife, his aged mother who is 79 years old, three brothers; Ed Halsey of Mouth of Wilson, VA; J.E. Halsey, Fox, VA and G.V. Halsey of Tilden. The brothers except Ed, and a brother in law W A Fender of Long Pine were present at the funeral. The deceased came to Antelope county nine years ago and by his fair and upright dealing with his fellowmen had gained confidence and esteem of those with whom he had come in contact. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Zinneeker. Interment in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
