Zubke passed away Friday morning, Aug. 28, 1959 at 4:00 A.M,. at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 28 days. He was born Jan 26, 1869 at Swierson, Ponerian, Germany, son of Frank and Wilhilmina Zubke. He was baptized in infancy in the Lutheran faith and after having reached the proper age, he was instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Swierson, Germany. In 1884 with his parents, he came to America and the family made their home in Milwaukee, Wisc., but later moved to Oshkosh, Wisc., where they lived until 1886. In 1887 he moved with his parents from Wisconsin to Waubay and settled on a homestead northwest of Waubay. On April 4, 1893 he was united in marriage to Augusta Bartelt and to this union seven children were born, 3 sons and 4 daughters. In November 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Zubke moved to Waubay. After his wife's death in June, 1945, he made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Guderian until his death. Mr. Zubke was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church of Waubay and continued his membership until his earthly sojourn. While a resident on his farm, he served for a number of years as County Supervisor; and also a member of the Board of Directors of the Waubay Creamery. For 17 years he served as alderman in the city of Waubay. He was well thought of by all who knew and associated with him. The departed father also had many trials, about 3 years ago it was necessary to have a leg amputated; and 13 months ago he lost his eye-sight. It is of interest that Mr. Zubke and Mrs. Paul Zaft were instructed and confirmed in the same Lutheran Church, Swierson, Germany, by Pastor W. Hinz, and both passed away on the same day, last Friday. Mr. Zubke leaves to mourn his passing: two sons, Erwin and Frank Zubke, both of Waubay; 4 daughters: Martha (Mrs. Harry Guderian, Hertha (Mrs. Emil Schulz), both of Waubay; Lillian (Mrs. Otto Richter) of Henry, and Esther (Mrs. Herman Jordan) Redwood Falls, Minn; one brother, Wm. Zubke, Bethesda Home at Webster; 17 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren, and a host of friends. His wife, son Walther, five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services were held in Zion Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in Lakewood cemetery. Rev. A. A. Krause officiated and A. W. Ross was in charge of the arrangements.
