ZEISIG, a leading merchant of Moscow, is a native of Prussia, born Nov. 9, 1855, and is a son of Charles A. Zeisig, who is still residing in that country. Of his father's family there were five children, three sons and two daughters, but he is the only one who ever came to America. Desiring to try his fortune in the New World, at the age of fifteen years, he bade good-by to home, friends and native land, and crossed the broad Arlantic, landing in New York June 8, 1870. After remaining in the city of Brooklyn for a short time he removed to Pittsburgh, Pa., where he made his home until his emigration to Cedar County, Iowa, where he was employed in working upon a farm. Leaving the farm he went to Durant, Cedar County, where he engaged in merchandising for a year, being associated in business with Ernest Gabriel, at Wilton. Coming to Moscow he established business Nov. 1, 1878, and now carries a complete line of general merchandise, including dry-goods, groceries, drugs, etc. By his fair and honest dealing, and his earnest desire to please his customers, he has built up a good trade, and is well deserving of a liberal share of the public patronage. In connection with his mercantile pursuits he also deals in grain. In 1882 our subject was appointed to the office of Postmaster, which position he held until 1887, for six years served as Township Clerk of Moscow Township, and in the autumn election of 1888 was elected Justice of the Peace. On the 6th day of September, 1881, our subject was united in marriage with Miss Julia A. Hain, a native of Cedar County, and a daughter of Thomas Hain, who was born in Indiana. Their union has been blessed with two children--Blanche M. and Charles A. In politics Mr. Zeisig affiliates with the Democratic party. As a public official he discharged his duty with promptness and fidelity, and is numbered among the progressive citizens and enterprising business men of the county.
