Berggren was born to Elmer E. Berggren and Edna Mindrup Berggren on February 2, 1943 at Genoa, and passed away September 27, 1985 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of43 years and 7 months. He was one of four children in the family. Most of Chuck's life was associated with farming. He was raised on a farm near St Edward. His love of the outdoors started with his brothers hunting, fishing, and working on the family farm together. Chuck was married to Nancy Louise Stricklett of Blair on February 2, 1963 and to them three children were born. After their marriage Chuck and Nancy spent two years in Lindsay where Chuck worked on a dairy farm. In 1964 they moved to Fairmont. He worked on a farm for Bob Bettger for nine years. He loved every aspect of farming from preparing the fields for planting to watching the Wheat fields turn golden brown. For the next ten Years he worked for Francis and Bill Jacobsen at the Fairmont Feed yard. He enjoyed working with the cattle and the variety of other jobs related to operating the lot. For the past three years Chuck worked for the Youth Development Center in Geneva where he enthusiastically met the challenge of the new experiences this job offered. Chuck enjoyed the company of many types of people through his years of work and other activities many dear friends were made. He loves to joke and share his positive Attitude with friends over a cup of coffee at the Tower and Village Cafe. Through the years many happy memories were made while playing cards and helping friends. Chuck was a devoted husband and father. His family was the single most important part of his life. His love and outlook on life will always be a part of the lives of his children, Kenny and Shelly. The love he felt for his children was reflected in their eyes. He was very happy when his father was able to come and join in his family life two years ago. For the past 16 months the joy of his life has been his granddaughter, Joni. Her smile lit up his face Chuck faced many difficult times, the loss of a daughter, Susan, months of hospitalization from a hunting accident, and his battle the past four years against his illness. He was able to face those times with his faith in God, the love and support of his family and friends, his sense of humor, and his positive attitude. Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, son Kenny, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughter Shelly Cassidy and her husband, Dave of Fairmont, granddaughter Joni, parents Elmer and Edna Berggren of Fairmont, brother Milton of Fort Calhoun, Norman OF Sunnymead, California, Vernon of Oxnard, California, mother-in-law Charlotte Stricklett of Blair. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church, Tuesday, September thirtieth, with the Rev Norman Kauble officiating. Mrs. Marvin Swartz accompanied Charles Swerzak and Mrs. Kathleen Wilbeck, who sang "Without Him", "Be Not Afraid," and "Amazing Grace". Serving, as pallbearers were Robert Bettger SR., Larry Cherry, Joseph Galaway, Francis Jacobson, Norm Kath, and Willis Kemper. Interment in the Fairmont Cemetery with Farmer and Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
