Description	:	Charles Arthur McClain, 98, of Greenville, formerly of Lima, died at 3:34 a.m. Feb. 8, 2011, at the Brethren Retirement Home, Greenville. He was born June 9, 1912, in Lima to Howard and Bertha Madden McClain, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 27, 1938, he married Janet Sealts, who died Dec. 8, 2007. He was born June 9, 1912, in Lima to Howard and Bertha Madden McClain, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 27, 1938, he married Janet Sealts, who died Dec. 8, 2007. Mr. McClain was the first of three boys. He attended Shawnee High School, Oberlin College and The Ohio State University. He was a lifelong follower of OSU football. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant junior grade in the North Atlantic. He coached football and taught math in Smithfield, Bridgeport, at St. Rose High School, Lima, and New Madison. He owned restaurants, first was The Huddle with his brother Dave, then in 1955, he and his wife bought The Colony Restaurant in Richmond, Ind., and moved there. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine Club. He was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and a member of the Lions Club. He served on the school board in Centerville, Ind., and on the Darke County Humans Services advisory board. His farm background was alive in his ongoing interest in animal breeding and training. He trained and raced standard bred horses from the 1950s through the 1990s. He was an avid Republican, willing to debate politics at any time with family members, but he always remained open to new information and change. Survivors include three children, Charles McClain III, of Cincinnati, Susan McClain Mead, of Pittsburgh, and Judith (Barbara DiBernard) Gibson, of Lincoln, Neb; two granddaughters, Sarah (Mark Toogood) Gibson, of Minneapolis, and Stephanie (Nick) Montemurro, of Pittsburgh; and a great-granddaughter, Sophie Montemurro. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and David McClain. Private graveside services will be held in Shawnee Cemetery, Lima.
