Description	:	Charles Atkinson was born May 4, 1848, at Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, a son of John W. and Maude (Kauser) Atkinson. In 1865 the family moved to Stark County, Illinois near Toulon. Mr. Atkinson came to Washington County, Iowa, from Illinois and lived on a farm four miles west of town until 1915 when the family moved to Washington. He was married Feb. 22, 1876 at Toulon to Laura Finley, who died in 1932. Mr. Atkinson died at 11:30 a.m. on August 8, 1936, at his home, 402 West Second Street, Washington, Iowa. He was married Feb. 22, 1876 at Toulon to Laura Finley, who died in 1932. Mr. Atkinson died at 11:30 a.m. on August 8, 1936, at his home, 402 West Second Street, Washington, Iowa. He had been confined to his bed by illness for two years. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, August 10, at Sherman's funeral home with Rev. M.C. Carstensen of the Baptist church presiding. Burial was at Woodlawn cemetery. Surviving children include: Mrs. W.G. Dumont of Des Moines; Miss Ethel of Washington, John F. Atkinson of Washington, Mrs. R.E. McGee of Cambridge, Illinois, and Dale Atkinson of Washington. There are also five grandsons, one foster grandson, two granddaughters and four great grandchildren. Mr. Atkinson was a man of great religious convictions and devotion. Early in life he united with the Methodist church and transferred to that church here, but for the last several years he had been a member of the Church of the Nazarene at Oskaloosa.
