Vollmer, Whose Death Occurred in Texas Buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The subject of this sketch, Charles Vollmer, died as a result of a fall from a windmill, which he tried to repair, at his home near McAllen, Texas, Nov. 14, 1924. Mr. Vollmer was born in Alsace Lorraine, France, on the 19th day of March, 1870. He had reached the age of 54 years, 7 months and 25 days. When he was 10 years of age he crossed the waters with his parents, coming to America and residing on a farm near Wisner, Neb., where he spent his boyhood days. He united in marriage with Louisa Noh the 6th of April, 1891. To them were born their six children, all of whom are living and were present, with the exception of Mrs. Edith Mueller of San Antonio, Tex. They are: Mrs. Alma Schlensig, Art. H. Vollmer, Mrs. Verna Hartwig, of Dunlap; Richard Vollmer of McAllen, Texas and Mrs. Alice Wall of Pisgah, Iowa. Besides these there are his wife and eight grand-children and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The brothers are Harry and Albert Vollmer, and the sisters are: Mrs. Augusta Dietz and Mrs. Bertha Crumback. His parents and one sister have preceded him to the Great Beyond. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. always active in the work of the order. Early in life he united with the Lutheran church. However, when he removed to Texas, there being no Lutheran church there, he united with the Methodist Episcopal church of McAllen and has abided faithfully and true to this church. He and his family lived in eastern parts of Nebraska until 1905. They then moved to Dunlap, where he has resided for twelve years, after which he moved to McAllen, Texas, seven years ago. He was an earnest Christian. A generous giver to every needy cause and always ready to help anyone who might be in trouble. He has left his body of clay and exchanged it for that spiritual body, promised to all believers in christ as Saviour--a body that abideth forever. Services were held in the M. E. church the 17th of November, 1924. The pastor, Rev. Benj. Van Dyke, spoke on the text found in Psalm 116:15, "Precious in the Sight of the Lord is the Death of His Saints." The members of the I.O.O.F. and the Rebecca Lodges were in full attendance. After the services at the church the remians were taken to the cemetery for internment. The beautiful commital services being rendered by the I.O.O.F. and final dismissal by the pastor.
