Description	:	Charles Augustus Rich died in a Eureka Hospital yesterday after a long illness. He was 72 years of age and a retired dairyman. Richard was born in Metropolitan (Ferndale) and lived his entire life in the area except for 10 years spent at Smith River in Del Norte County. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Marian Gossett of Alton; one brother, Fred M. Rich of Sanger; and uncle, William Patrick of Grizzly Bluff; a step-son Max Thompson of Eureka; and three step grandsons, Frank and Fred Thompson of Crescent City and Gordon Thompson of Fortuna. "Maggie" Miser Charles' parents were married May 9, 1880 in Benton County, Arkansas. Stepson of John W. Foster. Brother of Fred M. and Annie Rich. At the time of the 1900 census, Charles was living with his mom, stepdad and sister at Grizzly Bluff, Humboldt County, California. By 1910 the family had moved to Rohnerville. Annie's last name was listed as Foster rather than Rich. Charles brother, Fred, was also living with the family. When Charles completed his WWII daft registration card, he listed his place of birth as Ferndale. He was living in Wildwood (now known as Rio Dell), California. No records were found documenting when Charles' father died. Charles' mother died on October 7, 1930 at the age of 71 in Humboldt County, CA. Charles' stepfather, John Foster, born April 8, 1866 in Arkansas, died March 13, 1950 in Humboldt County. His brother, Fred, born about 1881 in Arkansas, died February 4, 1961, in Fresno County, CA.
