French will observe their 60th wedding anniversary, Sunday, with open house at their home in Osage from 3:00-5:00, with Mrs. Glen French and Mrs. Emmet Leverson as hostesses. On October 22, 1890, during the peak of the western expansion and emigration, while Benjamin Harrison was president, Roberta Penney of Stacyville became the bride of Charles B. French. They lived on a farm near Stacyville until Mr. French served as buttermaker at the Little Cedar creamery, the moved back to a farm near their home area, coming to a farm east of Osage... In 1921, Mr. French became foreman of a construction crew and 3 years later he began his work as Mitchell County Supervisor which office he held for 21 years. He retired to actively supervise his farm. Anniversary is always a double celebration for their granddaughter, Jeanette Leverson has her birthday anniversary on the same date. This year she will be 17 years old. Mrs. French is 85 and Mr. French is 82. There are two children, Glen, Osage; and Mrs. Emmet Leverson, Osage. There are 4 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all too, of Osage. Of the original Penney family, only Mrs. French and her brother, Charles Penney of Manzanola, Colorado remain.
