Slim Faherty passed away May 14, 1997. He was born in Tipton, Missouri on March 11, 1916, the sixth of 12 children. During his four years in the Navy (USS Idaho), while stationed at Bremerton, Slim met Bonnie B. (Crawford) to whom he was a devoted husband for 58 years. Active in the Edgewood community, he was awarded a distinguished service award for his 34 years as Commissioner in the Edgewood Fire Department. An active parishioner at All Saints Catholic Church, Slim served as president of the Holy Name Society. Also a member of both the Third and Fourth Degrees of the Knights of Columbus, he served as Grand Knight of the Third Degree. A business man in Edgewood for 35 years, in 1974 he was chosen Man of the Year by the Northwest Fuel Dealers Association. He led a boy scout troop and a CYO group. Many will remember him for the several years he called square dances. He loved to fish and travel, a member of the Royal Rovers Trailer Club for 27 years. His hobbies also included raising cattle, keeping the rolling stock running and maintaining the homestead. He was proud of his craftsmanship including the church doors, the homes and the garages he built, as well as the gas station in Edgewood and the swimming pool. He loved people and was blessed with an Irish gift of gab and sense of humor. Slim was also an avid reader, who achieved a very good education with little formal schooling. He liked reading, writing and reciting poetry. A devoted family man, Slim was very proud of his family. In addition to his many friends and relatives, survivors include his wife, Bonnie B. Faherty; daughter, Shareen J. Michlitsch (David); sons Terrill D. Faherty (Colleen), Thadeus C. Faherty (Ann); daughters, Teresa J. DenHerder and Marceleen J. Wilson; brothers, Edmond Faherty (Louise), Eldon, MO, J.O. Faherty (B'Ann), Lubbock, TX, Frank Faherty, Enumclaw, WA; sisters, Beth Nainen, Tipton, MO, Jeanne Clark (Kelly), Bonner Springs, KS, Estella Krohn (Fred), Independence, MO.; brother-in-law Don Williams, Waco, TX; sisters-in-law, Margaret Faherty, Dixon, MO; Dale Faherty of Barnett, MO.; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren & many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church, Friday, May 23, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. Rosary at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup, on Thursday evening, May 22, 1997, 7 p.m. Visitation at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup, 2-8 p.m. Wed. & Thursday.
