He was born April 2, 1944 in Ottumwa to William and Elizabeth Sutton Rooker. Charlie married Joyce O'Laughlin on June 27, 1970. He was also Summer Recreation... Read More	Charles Benjamin Rooker, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 1:44 a.m. February 15, 2022 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born April 2, 1944 in Ottumwa to William and Elizabeth Sutton Rooker. Charlie married Joyce O'Laughlin on June 27, 1970. Charlie was a 1962 graduate of Ottumwa High School and a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University. He worked as a shoe salesman for a short time and then worked for the Ottumwa YMCA for almost 40 years. He was a Youth Sports Director and retired as Associate Director. He was also Summer Recreation Coordinator for the Ottumwa Parks Department. Charlie was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and now Pickwick Community Church and was also a member of Ottumwa Noon Lions Club. He greatly enjoyed attending and cheering for Ottumwa High School sports. Charlie was also an avid Royals fan and loved attending spring training in Arizona every year for nearly 30 years. Surviving is his wife, Joyce; their daughter, Noelle (Brad) Barnes of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Thatcher Pierson, Spencer, Alexia, Maiya and Everly Barnes; brother, Stan (Fran) Rooker of Ottumwa; sister, Juanita Norman of Albany, OR; sister-in-law, Ione Rooker; numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Robyn (Blaine) Moats; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy O'Laughlin. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Benjamin Charles "Benji" Rooker; brothers, Wayne and Roger Rooker; father-in-law, Billy O'Laughlin and brother-in-law, Gary Norman. Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 17th, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 18th, at Pickwick Community Church with Pastor Timothy Curtiss officiating. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center. Memorials may be made to Ottumwa A-Club or Ottumwa Noon Lions Club for Scholarships. Published by Reece Funeral Home February 15, 2022
