Hegwood, 59-year-old Paton man who died last Wednesday at the Greene County Hospital in Jefferson, were conducted at 2:30 Friday afternoon, April 15, from the Methodist church at Paton. In charge of the services was the Rev. David F. Barker, pastor of the church. Mrs. Pat Smith and Ronald Swaim sang "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Sometime We'll Understand" accompanied by Mrs. Lois Wahl. Casket bearers were John Fisher, Fred Fox, Sam Conant, Bernie Griffin, Harry Ridenour and Henry Studyvin. Burial was made in the Paton Township Cemetery. Charles C. Hegwood, son of Archillis and Mary Hegwood, was born Oct. 4, 1888, at Council Bluffs, and died April 14, 1948, at Jefferson at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 10 days. Except for four years spent in Minnesota, his entire life was spent in Iowa. He had lived near Paton since 1920. On Sept. 28, 1911, he was married to Ellen Bentley at Knoxville and to this union seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his father and mother in 1920, five brothers three sisters and child who died in infancy. Surviving are his wife, Ellen; six children, Goldie Hegwood and Mrs. Marvin Richardson of Jefferson, Mrs. Ernest Balius of St. Charles, and Betty, Harold and Kenneth, all of Paton, two sisters, Mrs. Sidney Hollingsworth of Lamberton, Minn., and Mrs. Fred Wessling of Spokane, Wash, two brothers, Hansel of Newton and Eugene of Knoxville, besides a host of friends.
