C. Dee. His death was very sudden. At a little before noon he was in apparent good health, but at dinner time he commenced complaining about a chilliness, but thinking nothing about it neglected to send for a doctor. Chas. was a good citizen and had the unbounded respect and confidence of all who knew him, and his sudden death is deplored deeply by everyone. The funeral service was held at the Christian Church, Wednesday, at 3 o'clock P.M., Eld. A. Jay Garrison officiating. Cherokee Sentinel on the Border, July 25, 1890, page 3: Died Dee--Mr. Chas. C. Dee was born in Washington Co., Ohio, March 24, 1863; died at his home near Cherokee, Kansas, July 15, 1890, aged 27 years, 4 months and 11 days. He came to Kansas in 1882 and Nov. 4th, 1886, was united in marriage to Miss Alice Gee.** This happy union was blessed with peace and prosperity. Charley's strict integrity and upright business principles caused him to grow in favor with the people until he enjoyed an enviable reputation among all who knew him. As a school teacher he was beloved by his pupils and highly esteemed by his patrons. During the past year he had been having chills at irregular intervals but was able to attend to his regular duties up to the day of his death. Soon after eating dinner, July 15, he was attacked by a congestive chill and the community was shocked at the sad intelligence of his death at 4 o'clock. His parents reside in West Va., and were deeply bereaved in his death as Charley expected to make them a visit at an early date. His brother Martin was present at the time of his death but was suffering from an attack of malarial fever. Charley was a member of the Christian Church and the services were attended by a large assemblage of friends who were unbounded in their expressions of sympathy and condolence with the young widow who is so unexpectedly called upon to mourn the loss of a faithful companion. They were held at 4 o'clock on the 16, and were conducted by the Pastor, assisted by A.W. Wright, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
