CAMPTON DIES MANDAY IN STORM LAKE: Aged Resident Was Among Early Pioneers To Newell - Burial at Newell: Charles Campton, another pioneer resident of Buena Vista County died at his home, 810 Iowa Street, Storm Lake, at 10:16 a.m., Monday, May 7th, following a very brief illness. He had reached the age of 78 years, 6 months and 18 days. BORN AT DUBUQUE: Charles Campton was born in Dubuque, Iowa, October 19, 1849, and while a small boy moved with his parents to Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Goretta Heath on February 26th, 1873, at Waldwick, WI, and in the fall of 1880 Mr. Campton came to Iowa and purchased a farm three and one half miles southwest of Newell. Mr. Campton and his family moved from Wisconsin to this farm in the spring of 1881 and he resided there continually for 46 years. Owing to Mr. Campton's physical condition, he decided to leave the fam and about a year ago Mr. and Mrs. Campton moved to Storm Lake. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, three children, E.J. Campton of Storm Lake, Mrs. T.F. Householder of Newell and Mrs Myrtle Layman of Storm Lake; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren, two brothers, George Campton of Mineral Point, Wisc., and Frank Campton of Waldwick, Wisc, five sisters, Lizzle Denio, Lillie VanMatre and Corda VanMatre of Darlington, Wisc., Ianthia VanMatre of Mineral Point, Wisc. and Cora Ooley of Granville, ND and other relatives and hosts of friends. Mr. Campton was a kind and devoted husband and father. He was a man of quiet manner, a helpful and sympathetic neighbor and friend and one who enjoyed the very highest respect of everyone that knew him. Mrs. Nettie Glover of Los Angeles, Calif a niece of Mrs. Campton assisted in caring for Mr. Campton during his illness. BURIAL AT NEWELL: Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday morning at 10:00 o"clock, conducted by the Rev. C.H. Humke, and the body was laid to rest in the Newell cemetery. Mrs. Morton J. Hughes and Mrs. Robert Bleakly sang two selections, "Nearer my God to Thee" and "Rock of Ages," during the services. Mrs. Ray Point, Mrs. E.M. Hines and Miss Ada Anderson arranged the floral offerings which were many and beautiful, showing the high esteem in which Mr. Campton was held. Many were in attendance at the funeral including relatives and many friends from Newell. The pall bearers were, Gail Housholder, Durland Layman, Elmer Grove, Roy Mikelson, Wayne Deal and Elmore Huxtable, relatives of the deceased. Frank Campton of Waldwick, Wisc. and Van Wilson of Spencer came Wednesday morning to be in attendance at the funeral.
