Charles Henry Marfilius, son of Anton and Willemina(Horn) Marfilius, was born the 22 of March, 1857 in Ashland Schukill County, Pa. Here he spent his boyhood days and at the age of 10 (1867) he came with the family to Prairie du Chien, Crawford Co., Wisconsin. Charles Henry Marfilius, son of Anton and Willemina(Horn) Marfilius, was born the 22 of March, 1857 in Ashland Schukill County, Pa. Here he spent his boyhood days and at the age of 10 (1867) he came with the family to Prairie du Chien, Crawford Co., Wisconsin. After spending one year (1868 )at that place the family located on a farm 12 miles in the country in the vicinity known as Grand Grey, Sauk Co., Wis.(near Baraboo, Wis.
Here he grew to young manhood under pioneer hardships helping clear the land which became the home of the family. At the age of 21,(1878) just 50 years ago, he came to Froelich, Clayton Co.,Iowa, laboring on the same farm where his daughter and family now reside.
November 23, 1882 he was united in marriage to Mary Meier, and located on a farm in Giard Township. Later they moved to a farm in Farmersburg Township and 15 years ago retired from farm life and moved to Froelich, Iowa. Forthy-five years of happy married life were spent together and to this union were born one son and one daughter.
He was a member of the Prairie Evangelical Church for 48 years, joining during the pastorate of Rev. F. Eilert. He gave himself, and his best in loyal service to his church. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years, and at various times, for a number of years, hold other offices in the church such as steward, class leader and trustee. All this time he was very faithful in his attendance at public worship.
He was a devoted husband, father and grand-father. All that loving hands could do was done, but to no avail. God saw fit to relieve him from all suffering on May 9, 1928 at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 17 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. There remain to mourn his death his bereaved widow, one son William of Farmersburg township, one daughter, Mrs. David Kammerer, of Froelich, Clayton Co.,Ia., seven grand children who were his joy and delight, one brother August of Madison, Dane Co., Wis., one sister Mrs. Wm Peter (Anna Otillie Marfilius)Shepperd of rural route Luana, Clayton Co.,Ia., as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held Friday afternoon, May 11,1928, from the home to the Prairie church with interment in the Giard Cemetery, Rev. R. W. Berg officiating.

Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Schultz of Prairie du Chien, Crawford Co., Wis., Mr. Leo Kessler and son Earl of Wauzeka, Crawford Co., Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. G. Moedinger and Alfred of Baraboo, Sauk Co., Wis..
